Romania Willingly Becomes a U.S. Drone Base Aimed Against Russia

Anti-Russian Defender-Europe 2020 Exercises Stretch from the Baltic Sea to The Black Sea

The already existing tensions in the Black Sea region have heightened because of the Defender-Europe 2020 exercises, which include ten participating states, including the Black Sea state of Romania. Through these U.S.-led exercises, that are mostly aimed against Russia’s Kaliningrad enclave in the Baltics, the U.S.-made MQ-9 Reaper reconnaissance and assault drones, made infamous for being used in the assassination of Iranian Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani earlier this month, were deployed in Romania.

The presence of the Pentagon’s and CIA’s strategic squadron on the Black Sea and close to Russia does not contribute in any way to maintaining regional security, and rather these offensive weapons that were used in the assassination of high-ranking officials of enemy countries, aims to pressurize Russia further. The deployment of such drones in Romania shows that the former Warsaw Pact country is willingly going beyond its NATO responsibilities by becoming a critical staging point for anti-Russian pressure.

Moscow has mentioned on several occasions that it would consider these assault drones to be the equivalent of medium-range missiles, banned by the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty. Despite this warning, it had done little to influence the decision of Warsaw to permanently host the drones at the Mirosławiec airbase in western Poland.

The Romanian airbase Câmpia Turzii is the host of these offensive weapons. Although in the event of a military conflict in the Black Sea region, Russian anti-aircraft and missile defense units could intercept and destroy unmanned targets, even those in take-off position, this move to host offensive U.S.-made weapons is part of a larger strategy to pressurize, isolate and contain Russia in the Black Sea. Romania is not the only anti-Russian state on the Black Sea – Bulgaria and Turkey are also NATO members, and Ukraine and Georgia are weaponized states with aspirations of joining NATO. The U.S. are effectively leading efforts for a coalition against Russia in the Black Sea, even though it is unlikely that these states have the combined power to challenge Russian naval and aerial dominance in the region.

All the 25 defendants, accused of trafficking almost 200 kids from Tandarei [a small town in Ialomita County, Romania] were acquitted. Yesterday, the Court of Appeal at Targu Mures gave the final, albeit scandalous decision in this sordid case. Not only that, but the now acquitted culprits aim to sue the Romanian state at the European Court for Human Rights. Nine years ago, this case shocked the country as well as the European Union.

The case from Tandarei caught much attention in 2010, after footage and pictures with the trafficked kids were aired on international news channels. The investigation targeted 181 gypsy kids in the United Kingdom, who were used by their handlers to make money for them through stealing and begging. In England, 120 traffickers were caught and arrested. In contrast, back in Romania, a portion of those arrested and prosecuted were released just after a couple of months. Among the crimes involved we count: child trafficking, money laundering, constituting a criminal enterprise, and illegal possession of firearms.

The Tandarei case was delayed over and over again for nine years, six of which by the Harghita Tribunal [where 54 showings took place!], with the clear aim in mind to allow enough time to pass so that the deeds could be prescribed [statute of limitations].

Bernie Gravett, the British policeman who worked alongside the Romanian police on this case, was left perplexed after hearing that Romanian judges acquitted all 25 culprits, with the motivation that “no crime existed.”

Gravett commented the following, “I’m extremely sad for the victims, their families, and for the policemen with whom I worked for five years on this case in Romania. All their efforts were in vain. I can’t tell whether it’s the fault of the system, the court, or the prosecutors. All I can say is that, in my opinion, there was proof. I gave proof to the Romanian prosecutors regarding the exploitation of these 181 children from Tandarei through forced labor here in Great Britain. More so, I gave them evidence on money laundering, because all the revenue made in the UK was sent in Romania. The searches done in Tandarei, in April 2010, found money, gold, stolen goods, expensive cars, an inexplicable wealth, and many firearms. The searches were filmed. How can the court say there was no proof? […] I wonder how it’s possible that the British prosecuted and condemned 120 members of the same gang, while the Romanians condemned nobody. Europol deemed the group from Tandarei as the biggest human trafficking group in Europe. The kids were taken in every EU country and were exploited all the way from the streets of Norway to the Mediterranean coast. The 25 suspects handled the child trafficking in the whole of Europe. In my eyes, they were the network’s spear tip, and there was enough evidence for a sentence. If we had brought and prosecuted them here in Great Britain, they would have been in jail long ago.”

To those NGOs, politicians, and activists in Romania, who have an unhealthy love for Romanian magistrates, seeing them as angels, and who oppose any legislative effort to bring crooked judges to account and answer for their crimes – to them I say… “F… Y..!”

Deși opoziția atacă întotdeauna guvernul și există divergențe în interiorul guvernului însusi, în tot arcul parlamentar nu sa ridicat nici o singură voce, atunci când Primul Ministru Conte a expus liniile de orientare ale politicii externe, la Conferința Ambasadorilor (în 26 iulie), ceea ce demonstrează consensul amplu multipartid.

Conte a definit, înainte de toate, care este fundamentul poziției Italiei în lume: "Relația noastră cu Statele Unite rămâne calitativ diferită de ceea ce avem cu alte Puteri, deoarece se bazează pe valori, în principii comune, care sunt propriul fundament al Republicii, și o parte integrantă a Constituției noastre: suveranitatea democratică, libertatea și egalitatea cetățenilor, protejarea drepturilor omenesti fundamentale ".

Prim-ministrul Conte nu numai că reiterează faptul că SUA este "aliatul nostru privilegiat", dar, de asemenea afirmă un principiu călăuzitor: Italia consideră că Statele Unite sunt un model de societate democratică. O mistificare istorică colosală.

Ø  În ceea ce privește "libertatea și egalitatea cetățenilor", este suficient sa amintim că cetățenii americani încă în prezent, sunt oficial înregistrați, pe baza "rasei" - albii (deosebiti între ne-hispanici și hispanici), negrii, indienii americani, asiaticii, nativii hawaiieni - și că condițiile medii de trai, a negrilor și a hispanicilor (latino-americanii  care aparțin tuturor "raselor") sunt, de departe, cel mai rele.

Ø  În ceea ce privește "protejarea drepturilor omenesti fundamentale", este suficient sa amintim că în Statele Unite mai mult de 43 de milioane de cetățeni (14%) trăiesc în sărăcie, și aproximativ 30 de milioane nu au un plan de sănătate, în timp ce multi altii au asigurări de sănătate insuficiente (de exemplu, pentru a plăti o chimioterapie lungă contra unei tumori).

Ø  Si în ceea ce privește "protejarea drepturilor omenesti", aeste suficiente sa amintim, miile de negri neînarmați, asasinati cu impunitate, de polițistii albi.

Ø  În ceea ce privește "suveranitatea democratică", este suficient să reamintim seria de războaie și lovituri de Stat, efectuate de Statele Unite, din 1945 pîna în prezent,  în peste 30 de țări asiatice, africane, europene și latino-americane, provocând 20-30 de milioane de morti și sute de milioane de răniți (vezi studiul lui J. Lucas prezentat de Prof. Chossudovsky în Global Research).

Acestea sunt "valorile partajate" pe care Italia îsi bazeaza relația sa "calitativ diferita" cu Statele Unite. Și pentru a demonstra cât de fructuoasă ea este, Conte asigură: "Am găsit întotdeauna în președintele Trump, un interlocutor atent la interesele legitime italiene ".

Interesse, pe care Washington le consideră "legitime" în timp ce Italia:

Ø  Rămâne asociata cu NATO, dominata de SUA

Ø  Urmeaza SUA, din război în război,

Ø  Marește cheltuiala sa militara, la cererea lor,

Ø  Pune teritoriul sau, la dispoziția forțelor și bazelor SUA, incluind cele nucleare.

Conte, cauta sa faca sa se creadă, că guvernul său, desemnat de obicei ca "suveran", are un amplu spațiu autonom de "dialog cu Rusia pe baza unei apropieri NATO de dublu-binar" (diplomatică și militară), o abordare care, în realitate,  urmează de fapt un binar unic, al unei confruntari militare din ce în ce mai periculoase.

În acest sens - referă "La Stampa" (26 iulie) - Ambasadorul SUA, Eisenberg, ia telefonat Vice-Presedintelui Di Maio (considerat de Washington ca cel mai "de încredere"), cerând lamuriri cu privire la relațiile cu Moscova, în special ale Vice- Presedintelui Salvini (a cărui vizită la Washington, în ciuda eforturilor sale, a avut un "rezultat deceptionant").

Nu se știe dacă guvernul Conte va trece examenul. Se știe, cu toate acestea, că tradiția continuă, potrivit căreia, în Italia, guvernul trebuie să aibă întotdeauna aprobarea Washingtonului, confirmând astfel, care este "suveranitatea noastră democratică".

Hundreds of people have been injured after a massive anti-corruption rally in Bucharest, spearheaded by expats calling on the government to resign, turned violent, forcing riot police to use water cannons and tear gas.

Bucharest’s Victoriei Square became a scene of violent clashes with police warning the protesters in advance that they would not tolerate disorder. Despite the warnings, several groups of protesters calling for the resignation of the Social Democrat Party-led government tried to break through a security line. Police responded by firing tear gas and deployed water cannons against the crowd.

At least 440 people, including 24 gendarmes, received medical treatment after being injured in the rally, authorities said. At least 65 people were transported to hospital,  nine of whom were gendarmes.

What eventually grew into a massive, 60,000-strong rally began at noon, when roughly 200 expats gathered to protest corruption, low wages and attempts by the PSD to weaken the judiciary. Initiated by diaspora associations, Romanians living abroad waved the national tricolor and EU flags and chanted slogans against the government and the Social Democratic Party (PSD), such as 'Down PSD!', 'Thieves!' and 'Resign!' They also held banners reading 'Citizens have the right and duty to defend Romania', and 'No: Corrupt Romania, Corrupt MPs'.

At 5:00 pm the rally officially took off under the careful watch of authorities. At least 30 ambulances, three emergency services motorcycles and 13 fire engines were deployed for Friday’s rally.

Before authorities moved in to curb the unrest, the head of the Romanian Gendarmerie Service, Marius Militaru, urged all women and children to leave, warning that provocateurs might use them “as a shield to protect themselves.” Militaru noted that the violent crowd threw bottles and pieces of asphalt at police lines.

Law enforcement pushed the crowd from the square to adjacent streets. While most activists went home, a few pockets of rowdy protesters continued to engage the police into the night.
