On November 21, the modern warfare entered its new stage. The war between Russia and the West has changed forever. The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation launched their advanced medium-range ballistic missile.

The missile struck the State Factory “Production Union Pivdennyi Machine-Building Plant named after O.M. Makarov”, officially abbreviated as Pivdenmash or Yuzhmash in the city of Dnipro (Dnepropetrovsk). According to local reports, the large industrial facility suffered strategic destruction. All communications and traffic were blocked in the area, a lot of ambulances arrived on the spot. Officers of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) came to the area. The scale of destruction is likely to be shown by the satellite imagery soon.

The Ukrainian military claimed that Kinzhal missiles were also used in the attack. Another Patriot system was reportedly destroyed on the outskirts of the city before the main blow.

Moscow showed its Doom’s Day weapon in action. The RS-26 Rubezh ballistic missile was reportedly launched from the Kapustin Yar test site in Astrakhan Oblast. The flight time to the target located about 800 kilometers away is estimated to be less than 5 minutes. The speed of the combat units at the final stage of the flight was about 5-7 kilometers per second.

The RS-26 Rubezh is a ballistic missile of medium range, which is normally designed to carry nuclear warhead. It was developed by the Moscow Institute of Thermal Engineering as part of the Avangard program. It was created on the basis of the RS-24 Yars. Information about this mobile missile system, like its rocket, is completely classified.

The RS-26 reportedly has a starting weight of about 40-50 tons and is capable of delivering 4 separate combat units at a distance of 2,000 to 6,000 kilometers. Its warhead is three times larger than the Iskander’s warhead. Accordingly, it is much more powerful.

It has an advanced protection against the missile defense system and reportedly four individual thermonuclear warheads with a capacity of 150-300 kilotons each. No foreign air defense system is reportedly able to intercept it.

The Rubezh missile is aimed at carrying out nuclear strikes but in apparently in today’s attack the combat units were equipped with metal blanks. The published footage drom Dnipro shows the kinetic effect of the use of such ammunition. It is possible that the rocket was equipped with a Avangard-R hypersonic glider.

 

The footage also shows that the launched rocket had 6 combat units with 6 warheads in each. It is possible that the Russian military used its secret RS-27 or Yars missiles of the same type.

Moscow does not officially comment on the strikes but Russian diplomacy played well the media game that Kiev and its Western patrons imposed. LINK After the strikes, the spokeswomen of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mariya Zakharova held a media briefing, during which she had a ‘surprise’ call. Everyone clearly heard that the strikes reported by the media should not be commented. Thus, this was unofficial confirmation of the attack.

Apparently, Moscow warned the NATO countries about the impending strike in advance. That is why there was hysteria in Kiev the day before. Russian revenge was not long to wait but Kyiv and its patrons were surprised by its scale, target and timing.

After today’s strikes, the world will not be the same. Showing its advanced missile systems in action, Russia has demonstrated that it possesses unique missile technologies and is ready to use them effectively. In the event of the transformation of the conflict in Ukraine into a full-scale war with NATO, such complexes can already be used with standard nuclear ammunition.

Moscow responded to the strikes with NATO missiles on Russian territory in a sophisticated manner, giving a clear sign to Western warmongers.  There is no point no point on the European map protected from attacks by such Russian missiles. Today, NATO countries have no ability to intercept them, at least over the territory of Europe.

The exact number of missiles of this type in service with the Russian military is secret. According to open sources, the Russian Federation possesses at least 200 RS-26 Rubezh and PC-24 Yars missiles, which is more than enough to deal series of devastating blows on its enemies.

Russia responded to escalation. Now the ball is in Western court. The further steps are yet to come but it is clear that the provocations, including strikes with Western cruise missiles on Russian critical military, transport and energy infrastructure will be paid at too high price.

The Climate Clock, installed by Italian Minister Roberto Cingolani on the façade of the Ministry of Ecological Transition, has begun its countdown: there are less than 7 years before the global warming climate catastrophe. The clock is set on the forecasts of the Berlin Mcc Institute, not on the IPCC ones (UN Commission on Climate Change). It calculated that the global average temperature, which has risen by about 1 ° C since the 1750 pre-industrial level, could rise in 2050 (after three centuries) by 1.5 ° C, mainly due to CO 2 (carbon dioxide). CO2 is released into the atmosphere by human activities causing an intensification of the greenhouse effect. According to UN scientists the more intense activity of the Sun - other scientists think it is the main cause - contributes secondarily to global warming.

      Minister Cingolani was the main organizer of Milan Pre Cop 2020, during the meeting the complex scientific framework of climate change and its environmental consequences was spectacularized with catastrophic film techniques. Faced with the "scientific" prediction that in seven years the planet Earth will be overwhelmed by the climate catastrophe, the 400 young people from all over the world gathered by Cingolani in Milan, asked to close the fossil fuel industry by 2030 and that governments stop financing it right now, replacing it with green sources without CO2 emission. Minister Cingolani pledged to achieve this goal. There would actually be a way to do it, if Italy had a strategic plan to create an integrated energy system based on photovoltaic, and above all thermodynamic solar (with mirrors  concentrating the sun's rays), and on large wind farms mainly offshore (with wind turbines floating or installed on shallow waters). The innovative thermodynamic solar project, developed by Nobel Prize Carlo Rubbia, which would have made possible to produce a third of Italian electricity needs with some zero-emission solar power plants, was decimated and now this technology is used in China. The construction of offshore wind farms is hindered, so much so that there is only one in Taranto.

      However, Minister Cingolani had the "solution": nuclear power (see article by Greenpeace Italy director on the September 3 poster). Cingolani declared it in an open and polemical way when he was invited by former Prime Minister Matteo Renzi to Italia Viva School of Political Education. Minister Cigolani then sponsored a Conference of nuclear advocates. It is no coincidence that afterwards he met John Kerry, the US President's special envoy for climate management, who reconverted from opponent to proponent of nuclear power. Lega Leader Matteo Salvini immediately joined Cingolani and said: «A nuclear power plant in Lombardy? And what's the problem?" Therefore, the powerful nuclear lobby has also taken root in Italy, which has already achieved a first fundamental result in the EU: the Joint Research Center, commissioned by the European Commission, has included nuclear energy among the "green energy sources" supported and financed by the European Union to eliminate CO2 emissions by 2050.

      The EU is thus relaunching the nuclear industry at a time when the EU is in a deep crisis due to rising costs and technical problems. Solar power plants can produce more electricity than nuclear power plants without additional costs or dangerous emissions. Only to temporarily store the enormous amount of radioactive waste produced by EU nuclear power plants is expected to cost 420-570 billion euros. Moreover, there is the huge amount of money necessary for dismantling the plants themselves, which for the most part have reached or exceeded the age limit of 35 years becoming increasingly expensive and dangerous. Meanwhile, the International Atomic Energy Agency has authorized the discharge into the sea of over one million tons of radioactive water, accumulated in the Fukushima nuclear power plant after the 2011 accident, the result is that cancer deaths caused by the «Green energy source» will increase.

The campaign against the military use of nuclear technology never lets up, even for a single day. The opponents of those deadly warheads have made a lot of progress: bans have been put in place against tests in the atmosphere, underwater, and in space. In general, the number of nuclear detonations has dropped significantly since the era of the Cold War.

Unlike any other known weapon, nuclear attacks are different in that, one — the victims are chosen indiscriminately, and two — such bombs continue to wreak destruction for years and even decades after the initial explosions. Every person on this planet still absorbs approximately 5–10 microsievertsof radiation every year, mainly through our food, just from the aftereffects of nuclear tests.  No one’s health is at any risk whatsoever from such a level of exposure, but what matters is the dose any one particular individual receives — not some meaningless “statistical average.” For someone who finds himself in the immediate vicinity of a blast zone, and thus on the far and deadly extreme of that scale, there can be no comfort in such an irrelevant number.

Strange as it may seem, the most passionate advocates of dangerous nuclear tests turned out not to be the Americans, but the French: they conducted them until the late 1990s, although Moscow and Washington had both begun to grasp the implications of their own actions almost a decade earlier.

It should be noted that the countries of the West, unlike the USSR and China, staged their nuclear tests in their colonies — far from their own populations and the media spotlight — and this indifference to the environment and to the health of those indigenous peoples was clearly acceptable to them.

Those tests were conducted in the strictest secrecy. The white-skinned population was evacuated in advance.  The locals were viewed as disposable, and no one was particularly concerned about them. Of course, back then no accurate information was available about the effects of radiation on the human body.  It took decades for the horrifying results of the nuclear tests in Australia, Polynesia, and Africa to become apparent to the public.

The legacy left behind by France, the US, and the UK at their overseas nuclear test sites includes cancerous illnesses, leukemia, cardiovascular diseases, and birth defects in newborns. Today, hundreds of thousands of people around the world are trying to win compensation from the nuclear powers. Australian aborigines living in the Maralinga region —the “Australian Hiroshima” — have been fighting for justice for more than half a century.  When the British military began to conduct nuclear tests there in 1956, they evacuated the locals and made sure that the epicenter of the blasts was at least 300 kilometers from inhabited areas.

Some of the Australian aborigines who lived on those reservations where they planned to build the test sites were removed.  However, more than a thousand of them stayed behind, continuing to live in their native forests and were thus exposed to a huge dose of radiation. The British military did not look after their safety and did not even try to order them out of the test site. According to the Royal Commission, which studied the British nuclear tests in Australia in 1985, the military believed that “a dying race [the aborigines] couldn’t influence the defence of Western civilisation.”

Sixty years later, Ceduna, the town where the descendants of the aborigines from Maralinga live, is now the “cancer capital” of Australia. The local residents are dying from cancer and lung diseases, trying in vain to get compensation from the UK for their suffering.

A nuclear test on Bikini Atoll

Back in the 1940s, scientists around the world warned the military about the dangers of radiation. But they didn’t listen.  Prior to the first tests at Bikini Atoll, a consensus developed among the US military and politicians that the atmospheric detonations of nuclear bombs posed no danger, since after the blasts a type of “self-cleansing” of the air would occur. This was the official narrative on the tests, despite the fact that over the course of conducting them, the atoll’s unique ecological niche was almost completely destroyed and 840 inhabitants of Bikini and nearby islands died of cancer. Another 7,000 demanded acknowledgement from the US government that their illnesses had been caused by radioactive fallout. However, only 1,865 of them managed to win compensation. And half of those were already dead by then.

France exhibited the same cynical attitude when testing its nuclear bombs. They blew them up in Algeria from 1960 to 1962.  The Reggane test range was built in the very heart of the Sahara desert.  Four nuclear bombs were detonated on the ground there. The first, with a yield of 70 kilotons, was dubbed “Gerboise Bleue,” while the others were named “Gerboise Blanche,” “Gerboise Rouge,” and “Gerboise Verte.”

The French government’s official position was that all radioactive fallout had somehow been “successfully” contained within the Sahara. But several declassified documents have revealed that the wind blew radioactive dust thousands of kilometers across northern and central Africa.  After the tests, elevated levels of radiation were even detected in Sicily and Spain.

Today Algeria believes that about 100,000 people fell ill and died as a result of the tests. The French maintain that no more than 500 were injured. In 2010, France passed a law that offered compensation to the Algerian victims. But only 20 people have actually received payments as a result.

After Algeria won its independence in 1962, the French continued their nuclear tests in their other colony in French Polynesia. In 1962 almost all the nuclear powers signed a treaty prohibiting nuclear detonations in the atmosphere.  France, however, did not sign that document. Between 1966 and 1974, they blew up another 40 or so nuclear bombs in the air over the islands of French Polynesia.

Some deputies in the Assembly of French Polynesia tried to stop the tests. But those MPs were threatened with the warning that the military would be given direct control of the islands if they continued. And the locals did not fully grasp the extent of the danger. Winiki Sage, the president of the Economic, Social and Cultural Committee of French Polynesia, told the Guardian that “a lot of Tahitians and Polynesians went to France for the war.  And when Mr. de Gaulle came here and said ‘we’re going to do some tests,’ no one could imagine it was going to be so bad for us … In the house of my grandmother there was a nice picture of a big nuclear bomb test.”

On July 2, 1966, the first blast took place on the now-infamous Moruroa atoll. “C’est beau,” was Charles de Gaulle’s response.  Since then, about 127,000 people, both military and civilian, have been affected by the tests.

Radiation spread through the air and ocean, destroying the health of tens of thousands of more people. Levels well above the established safety threshold were detected on the islands of Polynesia. Documents that were declassified in 2013 and published in the newspaper Le Parisien showed that soon after the tests, the atmospheric content of plutonium in Tahiti, located a thousand kilometers from Moruroa, was five hundred times higher than what is considered safe.

Even worse was the official attitude toward the locals. Documents from the French military archives show that in 1966, when the wind blew a cloud of radioactive dust from the atoll of Moruroa toward the island of Mangareva, the military offered to evacuate that island’s population.  But Paris dismissed the idea, insisting, “No evacuation for political and psychological reasons.”

Environmentalists were unsuccessful in their protests against the radioactive nightmare that the French were producing in the Pacific Ocean. The military forcibly boarded their ships and arrested the “Green” protestors. While the Greenpeace ship Rainbow Warrior was docked in the port of Auckland, French intelligence agents simply blew it up.

Nuclear tests were still going strong in French Polynesia right up until 1996. The local residents did not immediately appreciate the consequences. But today many of them claim that the islands’ high level of oncological diseases is due to radiation exposure.  In 2006, even French doctors admitted that there was a link.

But officials in Paris refused to make a statement.  In 2010, a law was passed in France that offered compensation to the people who had been injured by the nuclear tests. However, if even professional servicemen who have worked at the test sites have found it difficult to prove the connection between their illnesses and the nuclear blasts, what hope is there for ordinary Polynesians who simply do not have any documents they can use to file a claim for compensation?  Of the 127,000 people who were affected by the tests, only 800 Polynesians have so far been able to submit properly completed claims.  Only 11 have managed to collect any kind of meaningful payments.

The Assembly of French Polynesia has long battled for recognition of the fact that the Polynesians were the victims of bungled nuclear tests. Those MPs have appealed to the UN, staged protest marches and demonstrations in Papeete, the capital of Tahiti, and organized media campaigns. On October 10, 2018, French Polynesia filed a lawsuit against France in the International Criminal Court, accusing that government of crimes against humanity. A successful verdict in this case could give hope to many others who have been victimized by the nuclear powers’ military exercises.
