French President Emmanuel Macron has routinely boasted about the creation of a powerful EU Army, but Macron’s ‘Napoleonic’ ambitions may have run into a major issue with the German military falling apart.

The latest report exposes how a major war exercise, which started last Thursday across Europe, had German troops using their own vehicles because of a shortage of infantry tanks as many were in disrepair. 

The shortage of infantry vehicles is so bad that some soldiers are using their own cars, RT News said, citing local reports.

2019 has been a difficult year for the European Union (EU) and it appears 2020 will be no different with many challenges and issues remaining unresolved after a turbulent year. The most obvious issue is the lingering Brexit saga that was not achieved and questions remain whether it is likely to be achieved by UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson with the looming January 31 deadline.

The modality of divorce between the UK and its 27 ex-partners will be discussed for months as there still needs to be the discussion of trade agreements, which effectively has become a secondary issue. There are the issues of fishing quotas, tariffs and other economic issues. These will likely go to the background as the British have not considered these questions yet, and of course there are issues on the preservation of the “United” Kingdom with Scotland pushing for a second independence referendum and a United Ireland free of British colonialism becoming a real prospect.

Of course, there are also the issues of borders and security, something that must be a serious consideration during this ugly divorce. The EU loses vital intelligence if the financial and commercial separation does not also consider these areas. EU technocrats in Brussels may be suffering from the loss of the British market, but it would be more dangerous to weaken military and security ties.

Another worrisome issue for the EU would be the inevitable strengthening of commercial and diplomatic ties between the UK and their former colony, the United States.  It is expected the British and Americans will intensify their relations against Russia and China.

El presidente de EE.UU., Donald Trump, ha calificado al primer ministro de Canadá de persona "de dos caras" al ser preguntado por el video que captó a Justin Trudeau supuestamente burlándose de él mientras conversaba con el primer ministro británico, Boris Johnson, y el presidente francés, Emmanuel Macron, durante una charla informal en el marco de la cumbre de la OTAN en Londres.

Tras esta definición del líder canadiense, Trump agregó: "Me parece que es un tipo muy agradable, pero, saben, la verdad es que yo lo llamé por el hecho de que no paga el 2% [del PIB de su país en defensa para sufragar a la OTAN] y puedo ver que no está muy contento con eso".

Al parecer, el mandatario, en vez de valorar el video en cuestión, ha comentado la reciente rueda de prensa conjunta que mantuvo con Trudeau, durante la cual exigió al primer ministro canadiense darle "las cifras" de su contribución a la Alianza y este, con la ayuda de un asistente, le contestó que Canadá gastaba el 1,4 % de su PIB en defensa (aunque el gasto real de Ottawa en esa área es del 1,27 %).

Cabe mencionar que cuando los periodistas pidieron comentarios al primer ministro británico acerca de su conversación con Trudeau en el Palacio de Buckingham, Boris Johnson respondió que no sabía a qué se referían. No obstante, fue Johnson quien le preguntó al presidente francés por qué llegó con retraso.

En ese momento intervino Trudeau diciendo: "Ha llegado tarde porque dio una rueda de prensa de más de 40 minutos", supuestamente en referencia a la conferencia de prensa conjunta que Macron había celebrado con Donald Trump durante esa jornada.

"Oh sí, sí, sí. Él anunció…", prosigue el mandatario canadiense antes de ser cortado por el presidente galo, cuyas palabras resultan inaudibles al estar de espaldas a la cámara.

Momentos después, Trudeau vuelve a intervenir comentando aparentemente la reacción de los colaboradores de Trump a las declaraciones de su jefe: "¡Se podía ver a su equipo boquiabierto".

Cabe destacar que en el video no se escucha el nombre de Donald Trump ser mencionado, aunque diversos medios de información han asegurado que los comentarios se refieren al líder estadounidense.

The two-day NATO summit of heads of state and government titled "NATO Engages: Innovating the Alliance", kicked off on Tuesday in London. US President Donald Trump, who has previously slammed European bloc members for not spending enough on weapons for the alliance, arrived in the United Kingdom on Monday night.

The arrival of the US president was accompanied by anti-NATO rallies that engulfed the central part of London beginning early Tuesday. Protesters also chanted anti-Trump slogans. A local resident, who took to the streets of London with hundreds of demonstrators, told journalists that Trump's "racist policies" have lead to barriers and entry restrictions into the US for people from seven countries.

Anti-Trump protests were also held in London during the US president's first and second visits to the UK, in 2018 and 2019.

Some protesters also opposed UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who, in their opinion, has been serving the interests of the US and not Great Britain.

The protests have not spoiled the planned schedule of the NATO summit.

Trump-Macron Row

The summit began with a meeting between Trump and NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg. After the official introduction and exchanges of commandments about the progress done within the bloc, reporters pounded the US president with questions. One much-anticipated comment was Trump's reaction to the recent controversial statement by French President Emmanuel Macron, who had described NATO as "brain dead".

"I heard that President Macron said NATO is “brain dead”, I think that’s very insulting to a lot of different forces, including the man that does a very good job in running NATO", Trump said before changing the subject to criticize France and its domestic policies.

"France is not doing well, economically, at all. They’re starting to tax other people’s products, so therefore, we go and tax them. That’s just taking place right now, on technology, and we’re doing their wines and everything else. And it’s - it’s a very tough statement to make when you have such difficulty in France. You look at what’s happened with the yellow vests, or you look at what’s going on during certain parts of their season. They’ve had a very rough year. And you just can’t go around making statements like that about NATO", Trump said.

Stoltenberg was more diplomatic in answering the question.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - French President Emmanuel Macron said on Thursday that Paris had not accepted Russia's proposal for a moratorium on the deployment of medium- and shorter-range missiles in Europe.

"We did not accept the moratorium proposed by Russia... but we took it as a basis for discussion," Macron said during a press conference with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, broadcast on Champs Elysees' Twitter.

In September, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed a moratorium on the deployment of medium- and shorter-range missiles in Europe and other regions.

He sent his proposal to the main countries of Europe and Asia and to various international organizations. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov later said that NATO's reaction to this proposal was disappointing. NATO said the proposal for a moratorium was not credible because it ignored reality on the ground.

The US formally suspended its obligations under the INF Treaty at the beginning of the year and unilaterally quit it, accusing Russia of not fulfilling its commitments. Russia denied the allegations. The treaty, which banned any ground-launched ballistic and cruise missiles with ranges of 500 to 5,500 km, was terminated on 2 August.

Macron Urges for 'Lucid, Robust' Dialogue With Russia

Emmanuel Macron on Thursday called on NATO to have a "lucid, robust and demanding dialogue with Russia."

"The world has changed, the Iron Curtain has fallen, the Warsaw compact is gone and the alliance is still standing as the guarantor of our joint security. It requires that today we reconsider a number of important topics in this respect. First of all, lucid, robust and demanding dialogue with Russia. And I very much endorse the fact that I wanted to give new momentum to this dialogue," Macron told a press conference.

Macron added that the dialogue with Russia was "in the interest of peace and stability" in Europe.

The French president said in August he was expecting Russia and the European Union to create new European security architecture.

President Donald Trump has thrown down the gauntlet by demanding that Europe spend more on defense. And the Europeans have responded—but in the worst way possible.

In a speech to the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France, German Chancellor Angela Merkel recently echoed French President Emmanuel Macron’s call for the creation of a European army. She also called for a European security council that would be able to prepare important decisions more swiftly. “We should work on the vision of creating a genuine European army one day,” she said. Merkel stressed that this would not be an anti-NATO army, but that it would complement the existing efforts of the alliance.

Earlier that week, Macron had said that an EU army was needed to “protect ourselves with respect to China, Russia, and even the United States.” President Trump reacted to the statement by tweeting:

Loud applause reigned in the European Parliament after Merkel announced her support for an EU army, as those wanting to unite the continent in one centralized state saw their dream as closer than ever before. The European Parliament’s chief Brexit negotiator and EU uber-federalist Guy Verhofstadt applauded the declarations by Macron and Merkel by saying that “we have fought for this for many years.”

French Jews have reacted in horror at reports President Emmanuel Macron will honor Marshal Philippe Pétain, the disgraced Nazi collaborator who authorised the deportation of tens of thousands of Jews to death camps.

Marshal Petain’s name appears alongside seven other military chiefs to be honored Saturday in a ceremony at the Invalides monument, site of Napoleon’s tomb, to mark the centenary of the end of World War 1.

Petain led the French army to victory in Verdun in 1916, but gained lasting infamy and a conviction for treason for his leadership of Nazi-sanctioned Vichy France during World War II.

In 1940, with France under attack from Germany, Pétain was appointed vice-premier. He later asked for an armistice, upon which he was appointed “chief of state”, enjoying almost absolute powers.

The armistice gave the Germans control over the north and west of France, including Paris, but left the remainder as a separate regime under Pétain.

Officially neutral, in practice the regime collaborated closely with Germany, and brought in its own anti-Semitic legislation.

Speaking at a plenary session at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum, Emmanuel Macron, a guest of honor at the international event, which featured over 15,000 participants from over 100 countries, stated. Macron advocated a ‘new economic and social model’ of cooperation between Paris and Moscow, iterating a sentiment that seems to be the polar opposite of the overwhelming rusophobic mentality that has been sweeping the west for going on two years now.

ST. PETERSBURG, May 25. /TASS/. French President Emmanuel Macron would like Russia to remain a member of the Council of Europe, as he himself said at the plenary session of the of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF)

“I would like Russia to remain in the Council of Europe,” he said.

“We should maintain dialogue with everyone, we have common roots. We need to work on new projects. We must also work on a new economic and social model that would help improve the standards of living,” Macron noted.

Russia and France must work together to build an atmosphere of trust, he said.

“I want us to work arm-in-arm to build an atmosphere of trust,” he said at a plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

“We must bridge the gaps and, despite all the shocks, we must re-build partnership,” he stressed.

Prior to Trump’s withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Macron literally got behind Trump as he demonstrated that he was willing to be a partner in crime with America on its activities to destabilize the Middle East when he joined Trump’s coalition to conduct a ‘precision strike’ against targets in Damascus last month.

France’s Macron, the Saboteur with a Savior’s Mask

French President Emmanuel Macron has a ruthless streak of ambition that should make democracy-seeking people shudder.

On an official state visit this week to the United States, Macron was posing as the “polar opposite” to President Trump, and the “standard-bearer of liberal centrism in the West”, according to the Washington Post.

Ironically, too, he presented himself last week – yet again – as the “savior of Europe” with a major address Tuesday to the European Union parliament in Strasbourg.

The Strasbourg address was only four days after the French leader unleashed a joint bombing blitzkrieg on Syria along with the US and Britain.

As if to add further mockery to his virtuous pretensions, while Macron was regaling the EU parliamentarians with grandiose visions of democracy, his own country is crippled by nationwide industrial strikes fighting against his plans to demolish workers’ rights.

At age 40, Macron is the youngest elected French president and currently one of the youngest EU leaders, along with Austria’s Sebastian Kurz (31).

Kurz is among the European zeitgeist of populist politicians whom Macron would deprecate as “regressive” owing to the Austrian Chancellor’s independent nationalist policies.

The French leader’s youthful appearance and apparent zest for “democracy”, however, belie a very old and darker tendency towards authoritarianism and contempt for democracy.
